Ophthalmologist 10/6/08

Well, we had our most recent appointment with the ophthalmologist on Monday.

His bottom line…structurally, her eyes are fine.  The nerves look good.  She is far-sighted, which is normal for kids her age.

She reacts to light for him, but not consistently.  Her eyes are capable of sight, but she can’t really see.

Basically, from his perspective, he can’t do anything for her.  Glasses aren’t going to be any use to her at the moment.

So….he’s referred me to the Children’s Low Vision Resource Center in Royal Oak.  It is sponsored by ROPARD, an organization that helps to raise money for research for kids with low vision.  The center’s main purpose is to provide services and support for kids and their families.

I’ve scheduled an appointment with the Center for this upcoming Tuesday.  They’ll take a look at Emma and see how she uses her vision.  I’m interested in what they will have to say.

This news makes me very sad, but if Emma is meant to live her life with minimal sight, then I need to make it my mission that she has the resources to live like she was meant to.

We also have a neuro appointment on Monday.  We’ll tell her all of this information and see what she has to say and suggest.  It is possible that this new revelation could point us in a direction for a reason behind the IS.
